We are excited to announce that former Trenton Arts fellow Andrew Kaneb ’22 is returning to TAP as our inaugural Saturday Morning Artist-in-Residence. Kaneb will work with Trenton Youth Dancers, Orchestra, Singers, and Theater to produce a music video of his song, “Lend Me All Your Sorrows,” which he wrote and premiered last year to celebrate our fifth anniversary. Using his unique interdisciplinary voice, Kaneb will guide our students to think about how different art forms can come together to create a compelling narrative.
Kaneb is a songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Brooklyn, New York. He began studying music at the age of seven, when he started taking classical violin lessons. After playing in various chamber groups and orchestras at the New England Conservatory, Kaneb attended Princeton University, where he obtained a minor in music composition, and New York University, where he obtained a master’s degree in music composition. Primarily a songwriter, Kaneb records and performs under the stage name Kaneb Andrews. His music blends influences from classic rock, indie, electronic, classical, and other genres. He has performed at various historic New York City venues, including the Bitter End, Mercury Lounge, and Rockwood Music Hall. Kaneb also enjoys composing long-format music for film and dance.
In 2021-22, as a Princeton senior supported by the Trenton Arts fellowship, Kaneb served as the student leader of the Trenton Youth Orchestra. Highlights of that year included helping the orchestra write and premiere a bilingual set of lyrics to “Remember Me” from Coco; preparing them to open for Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason’s Princeton University Concerts debut; and co-organizing the inaugural Arts Switcheroo Day. Since then, Kaneb has continued to engage with TAP as a frequent guest performer and teaching artist.
“I’m so excited to continue working with TAP!” says Kaneb. “The Trenton students are always so full of energy and ideas. I’m really looking forward to seeing what kind of creative possibilities we can imagine and bring into existence together over the course of a year.”
